Babies, Business and Blogging - The 3 B's

Thanks for clicking your way to my blog and I hope you got a chance to see my new website, www.itsa-belly.com.

Well, it's official, the latest addition to our family has arrived, Itsabelly LLC. It has taken many late nights, tons of working hours while Isabella was sleeping and on-going dinner conversations with Randy, my husband to pull this business concept together. I have to tell you it feels great to see my hard work become a reality and now the most challenging part of building a business begins - sales and marketing.

As I start the next phase of building my business I wonder how I'm going to do it all. Being a stay-at-home mom is consuming enough but adding a new business and keeping a blog up to date will definitely require a good juggling act. To some of you working mom's this may sound familiar. So, I welcome your advice on the best way to juggle life as a new, working mom or if you just want to vent please feel free to post your comments. We can have our own little pow wow!

Now back to my soapbox, every free minute that comes up has become a precious commodity these days. When I'm not taking care of Isabella or on the treadmill I find myself reading email, doing research or figuring out ways to grow my business which leaves me little time to fit in a shower or empty the dishwasher. Not to mention our clean laundry is stacked 2 miles high calling out to me.

In the end, even though it's totally overwhelming especially when I think about the never ending list of tasks at home and work that I have to do I just remember what matters to me the most. That is my family, my health and doing what I'm most passionate about. So, if I can make sure my baby is being fed, that I spend quality time with my husband and I'm doing things that I'm passionate about then I think I'm living the dolce vita or in plain english I'm living a pretty good life!

So, I'll keep you posted on my new venture and let you know how handling the 3 B's goes. Please excuse me if in my next blog I throw up on you and vent about how I'm on the verge of pulling my hair out. The fun is just beginning!

Congrats on the launch of your website! I can't think of a better person to be putting together these services for soon-to-be mommies out there!!

Being a working mom is really tough - the concept of balance is very important to keep both you and your loved ones sane. I've found that the most important advice I can give to any working mom is to not feel like you HAVE to do it all. It's okay to let the laundry pile go for a week or two without folding -- just tell your husband to reach in and get his new clothes out of the pile instead of his drawers! It's okay to leave the toys scattered at the end of the day -- your daughter will play with them tomorrow anyway! A lot of women who have been extremely successful in their careers find it hard to let things go (something about that A-type personality).

My other advice to all moms is to get help around the house when you need it. Whether it's housecleaning (which also sometimes includes laundry folding!), gardening or babysitting, getting good help is sometimes all you need to pull yourself out of a seemingly overwhelming week. And don't forget that you don't always have to turn to the pros - you can always reach out to your hubby for a little extra help. A lot of women, whether they're working or not, feel guilty about asking their hard-working husbands for a little help every now and then. Make a trade with him - he can have a boys night next weekend with no baby duties if he helps you on Monday and Tuesday with household chores. Or, better yet, if you have a bit of a competitive spirit, you can play a game of cribbage or Yahtzee for who has to empty the dishwasher. Keeping your hubby involved in household chores will keep you from getting into arguments because you resent his lack of help when you're completely stressed out.

I'm looking forward to reading the next entry! Good luck with everything... your itsabelly fans are here cheering for you. :)

Congrats on your new business and website. I am very excited for you.
As I am getting ready to enter "the 2 B's" (baby and business) I take your advise to heart. My first baby will be here in 5 weeks and I often catch myself wondering how will it be possible to juggle between my family and my work. I don't have any advice yet, but I appreciate all of the advice from other moms on your blog. I am looking forward to reading the next entry. I wish you the best of luck with your new adventure and remember that I am your biggest cheerleader! Maybe after Randi.:-)
